French Snack

While waiting for my sea bream to be cleaned and filleted at L’Ambiance des Halles, we started talking about caviar and how expensive it is.  One of the ‘mongers suggested that I try a coffret of Kaviari with 2 small tins of ossetra caviar.  She assured me a 15 g tin was the perfect one person snack when you need a little something to get you through the day, and that the price was reasonable.  Okay, I like caviar, why shouldn’t it be a snack?

The packaging was simple, though attractive.  The caviar has a rich, delicious flavor although I prefer a firmer texture.  It was a good snack!  I quickly polished off one tin.

I savored my French snack for about 1o minutes, then made an American snack of an omelette topped with sour cream, chives and the second tin of caviar 🙂

What a delicious snack! Sure beats my salt and vinegar crisps.

Rose, your caviar sounds delish but my mouth was watering when i heard you were waiting for your Sea Bream to be filleted. I had Golden Bream for the first time in Portugal last Spring and was hooked. So wish we could get that back here in the states, Enjoy it and think of me.

Excellent! I’ve just discovered a new (to me) Catalan supermarket in Calella, which is very much like the best French ones and much nicer then Carrefour in Barcelona. Being in a more rural area, the staff are all less stressed and very friendly too!

Very interesting Rosemary. I must keep an eye out when in the markets.

  5. I love your style! Looks like it would make a lovely little gift too.

The packaging in and of itself makes it an excellent snack, glad it also tasted good! I just searched and can get Ossetra in the US (at Costco even) but not in that lovely box. Enjoy while you can!!

  7. I love caviar but the price makes it a special treat. Sometimes you just have to enjoy it. 🙂
