Ocean Fish with Chard and Leeks
The good news is that I found a fishmonger, a butcher and the open market in the historic town center of Waiblingen, about 5 minutes from our house. The bad news is that I haven’t yet learned to copy down … Continue reading

Poached Egg with Leeks and Spinach
We had the plumbers in this morning or as the landlord writes, the blumbers, to hook up the washing machine and dryer. They also performed some kind of maintenance on the sauna and indoor pool. I had to say that. Don’t … Continue reading

No New Thing Under The Sun
“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.” King James Bible. Jade and I had an interesting conversation about originality in cooking. She seemed to … Continue reading

White Asparagus and Leek Flan
Okay, I’ve been avoiding the white asparagus because I’d never cooked them before. I remember the Ambassador’s wife, Claire, in Niger bringing these from France for a special dinner that included a white chocolate mousse. She had a … Continue reading

Scallop Stuffed Leek and Salmon Roll
This is another interesting creation from the traiteur. He wrapped fresh salmon and leeks around a stuffing made of scallops. I baked this for 25 minutes in a 350 degree oven Added a salad and voila! Wine suggestion: Chablis
Jade’s Leek and Gorgonzola Quiche
Every Wednesday Jade has a day off from school. Today she was food gazing in my Saveur magazine and decided she would really like to make the leek and Gorgonzola quiche. She’s really starting to be interested in cooking/eating and excited about … Continue reading
Thyme for Roast Chicken with Root Vegetables
Wednesday market. I think that root vegetables are some of the least attractive vegetables, in a sort of “evil lurks this way” manner. It doesn’t help that the market people like to display them with that “just picked” look with … Continue reading
