    Rosemary,
I’ve been following your blog and enjoy it very much but today’s pictures of the market have made me homesick for Europe. My son has just been stationed in Germany and I hope to visit them later this year. Maybe I’ll get to France as well.
    Ellen

  3. I’d love to see you Ellen!

  4. Very impressive site! I’ll visualize some of your photos when I’m reduced to eating road food next week.

  5. Karen says:

A fellow displaced Texan had to say hello and let you know that I enjoy your blog. We travel to Europe almost every year and France is our favorite country…I think the food has a lot to do with it.

  6. Beverly says:

    Hello,
I will be coming thru your lovely little town on Monday. I was hoping there might be a fresh market to visit. I have seen one mentioned, but the location was not. Any help you could give?
    Many thanks

    • Hi Beverly. The market is right in the town center. If you look up, you will see the spires of the cathedral. Opposite the catherdral in the square, you will find the market that is open on Monday for a big market day, inside and out.

  7. Everything you have looks amazing! Btw there is a recipe contest going on right now to win the crowne plaza concord’s Top Chef contest on their facebook page and I reallllly hope I win, if you could give any advice by looking at some of my recipes (I entered the bbq tofu salad tacos) that would be awesome! :)

Hello, I have nominated you for ‘The Most Versatile Blogger Award!’ I follow very few blogs, only those that I really enjoy and when I received this award I thought of your blog. It never lets me down and I enjoy it very much. Thank you….RaeDi

This is not easy for me…

Tikktok has nominated me for this award, The Most Versatile Blogger Award! I do not know whether to thank her or block her. I am not one who likes to receive any type of notice, other than please read my blog and subscribe… it is hard for me to accept this award… if you want to know the truth… I went to one class reunion since I graduated in ???? (I will put it like this it has been a very long time) and the only class reunion I went to was the 25th.

I knew the gal that was putting it all together and she was honored with being picked the speaker. We were good friends in high school and I was invited over one afternoon so we could get caught up on things, it had been quite a while. When she started talking about the little awards for who came the furthest, had changed the most, changed the least… my brain started thinking, yes it does that once in awhile… Please do not let it be me, I knew deep down I probably had come from the most miles away, unless someone was living in Europe or Asia that I was unaware of, but I let her know that to make sure it was not me, I wanted no added attention to myself. I thought there were no possibilities my name would be called for any of the other awards, just for who had traveled the furthest. We talked about that and then I remembered that one of our classmates, became a pilot in the Air Force and had been stationed somewhere in Asia and had just returned stateside and was in Alabama. I said since he just returned and was on his way from just getting to Alabama then he should get it.

That evening sure enough some thought I had came the most miles and my friend brought up our classmate/friend the pilot and that he was just getting in from… and he got the award. To my horror the next award was for who had changed the least, countless voices all called out my name. I looked at my friend up at the podium (pleadingly)she then asked if there any more nominees? To my relief two of my classmates’ names were called… after a few anxious minutes it was decided with applause and my friend named the winner and thank goodness it was not me. All that was said are you sure… We were all I was very sure!

Now back to this award… Since she has done all the backup work and finding out just exactly what this award is or does, I leave that to her! Maybe she would like to write this too! All kidding aside, thank you Tikktok for thinking of me… you should not have!

I need to list 15 blogs I enjoy reading then link them and let them know I have nominated them for this award. I need to list seven things about me; and I need to display the award badge! (HELP)

15 Blogs I Enjoy (not in any order):
    1.AnnieEats
    2.Cooking in Sens
    3.Chica Andaluza
    4.tales of ambrosia
    5.Jules & Jules do food & wine
    6.Camerahols/Food,Photography & France

    12.Mango, Chili and Z
    13.mixed gems
    14.meanderings minds
    15.veggieyarnsandtails

    Seven Things About Me:
1.I do not know how to display the award badge!
2.It is hard to make a list when all you have to do is read: JUST ME, which tells you everything!
3.My biggest fear is height, no… maybe mice… or it could be spiders…
4.I do not like frying bacon.
5.I will not swim in water that I cannot see what is swimming with me, but love the beach…
6.Love doing watercolors more than cooking.
7.Love our baby, a pixie bob named Ninnie.

    The Versatile Blogger Award:

If you have been nominated by someone and you claim this award by displaying it on your blog, you must meet certain criteria. Here is the list:
1.You must give credit to the person that has nominated you and create a link to their blog in your post, (as I have done in the above paragraph.)
2.You must create a list of 15 blogs that you enjoy most and link to those as well. Then you must go and tell them you have nominated them. That means if you do not have 15, you cannot do this step. If you do not complete this step, then you cannot claim this award.
3.Finally, you must create a list of seven things about yourself.

Thank you Tikktok for nominating me, you are such a darling! Is Cocoa still screeching? ….

  11. I love the content on your blog- definitely gives me some new ideas for recipes to try. thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing your tasty treats with all of us! Great seeing Kevin home for a visit with you and Jade. Regards, Rita

  13. isabelle tourneau says:

Hello Rosemary (what a wonderful name for an inspired cook!),
I’m Rita’s friend, Isabelle, and I’m so glad she sent a link to your blog. Cool fall days are here in North Carolina, and I’ve been craving a rustic, spicy lentil dish, which I found on your site – merci! I believe one good recipe deserves another, so here’s one I created from Restaurant Au Moulin Vent in Paris after enjoying it a couple of times there last year. (I love recreating recipes!) This dish is colorfully delicious, deceptively simple and always a fav when I make it for friends here in the USA. Hope you like it too! –

Salad of Braised Leeks & Roasted Beets
Recreated from Restaurant au Moulin a Vent, Paris http://www.au-moulinavent.com

    For the Leeks:
4 small or medium leeks, tough outer leaves discarded and leeks trimmed to about 7 inches long and cut lengthwise into quarters or eighths
    2 tablespoons unsalted butter
    1/4 cup chicken broth
1 teaspoon freshly grated lemon zest

In a large bowl soak leeks in cold water to cover 15 minutes, swishing them through the water occasionally to remove any grit. In a heavy skillet melt butter over moderate heat. Lift leeks out of the water and with water still clinging to them add to skillet. Cook leeks, stirring occasionally, for five minutes and add broth and zest. Braise leeks, covered, 15 minutes, or until very tender, and season with salt and pepper.

    For the Beets:
1 bunch beets (about 1 pound), trimmed
    3 tablespoons olive oil
    1 tablespoon minced shallot
    1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
    1/4 teaspoon sugar
    1/2 teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 425°F. Wrap beets in foil and roast in middle of oven until tender, 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Unwrap beets and cool. While beets are roasting, prepare dressing. Stir together olive oil, shallot, lemon juice, vinegar, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Slip skins from beets and cut beets into 1/4-inch dice and add to dressing, tossing to coat. Arrange beets in the center of a platter and drizzle with any dressing remaining in bowl. Surround beets with a circle of braised leeks.

Serve slightly warm or at room temperature as an appetizer, or as an accompaniment to Chicken with Herbes de Provence. Or create a light meal by serving this salad with warm goat cheese and crusty bread.

    For Warm Goat Cheese:
Cut log of goat cheese into rounds. Dip goat cheese rounds in beaten egg, letting excess drip off, then dredge in panko crumbs, pressing lightly to adhere. Chill at least 15 minutes, then sauté quickly in olive oil, turning once.

  14. I’m a big fan, so much so that I’ve nominated you for The Versatile Blogger Award!

    Hi,
Christmas Eve tomorrow here. We are not cooking the traditional. We never do. On Christmas Day, we will cook roast rib of beef, Yorkshire puddings, potatoes and roast winter vegetables. We will have smoked salmon and home made brown bread to start. A meringue cake with raspberries to finish. There will be no photos or posts. It is a family time. Wishing you a happy Christmas and all the best in 2011.

  31. Sue Cheng says:

    Hi there!

My name is Sue, and found your blog today thru WordPress – it captured my interest! I’m from SlimKicker (a healthy living/fitness app), and was wondering if we can do a giveaway for your blog readers?

Our site basically turns people’s health/fitness goals into a level up game with challenges such as quitting soda for a week. We’re looking for new challenge ideas, so was thinking of holding a contest where your readers leave a comment on a health challenge idea, and we’ll pick our favorite challenge idea, use it on our site, and give the winner either a free digital health scale, slow cooker, or digital heart monitor.

Let me know if you’re interested by email: sue (at) slimkicker.com

PS. You can choose not to publish this comment since it’s not really a comment, I just couldn’t find your email address =)

    Best,
    Sue

    • Hi Sue. I don’t mind publishing your comment for my readers. However, you might have noticed that my blog is not really, per se, a healthy or fitness blog but is mostly concerned with the preparation of food using superior ingredients. No antibiotic loaded meats or GM fruits and vegetables, but lovely cheeses, butter, creme fraiche and all of the rich products of France, including foie gras, that I can get my hands on :)

I think your readers would be more in tune with another site. Thank you for the invitation but I’m afraid I must decline.

  32. Because I love your recipes and photos, I have nominated you for a blog award. Congratulations!

See my recent blog post for more details ….

    Hello there!
It was nice meeting you at the grocery store just now. But I feel like a stupid idiot. Shortly after you walked out I remembered the German name of what you were looking for. They even had it at the grocery store we were in.
Corn starch is “Speisestärke” in German and they have it from Mondamin. The box has a marble cake in front of it, but it is exactly what you are looking for made out of corn.
    Hope you will find it.
Again pleasure meeting you … now I will check out your recipes :)

It’s so great to follow your blog, I feel like I’m back in Germany being curious and tasting different things. Right now I’m working on a blog for all the restaurants I tried in Heidelberg. I was there for two semesters so I really got a chance to go out and taste some great food! Can’t wait to read more of your blog. I cannot emphasize how excited I am to read your recipes and experiences!

Just wanted to let you know that a sick freak on Facebook is using your pictures and claiming them as theirs. They are claiming that your Barbecued Rabbit Saddle and Grilled Corn with Cumin Butter is BBQ’ed Cat, and telling people to kill their neighbor’s pets to make it. Many ppl would like to see the page shut down for good but their complaints are falling on deaf ears. There is even a petition with over 8,000 signatures. I humbly request, as you are a copywrite holder of one of the images they stole, that you make a report to Facebook. The more people that complain of copywrite infringement the quicker it will be shut down. Here is the link to the post with your image…

  61. David Honig says:

Delightful site. I’m trying to find contact information for you. I’d like to link your Osso Buco recipe to a Palate Press review. We always add food pairing to wine reviews, and would like to add links to recipes. These would be included in wine store shelf-talkers, too, with QR codes going directly to the recipe site. If possible, we would like the recipe to link back to the review as well. The review being considered can be found at http://palatepress.com/2013/07/wine/2008-cipriani-san-martino-bolgheri-superiore/ We would like to use this recipe, and to be able to communicate directly with you for other recipes. 64. Hi! I’ve been a fan of your blog for a while, and now I’m headed out in your direction for vacation. Staying near Nevers for a few days, and I was wondering if you have any must-visit recommendations in the area? Looking forward to cooking in Burgundy!

  65. Hi Carolyn. I don’t really know anything about, Nevers, in the Nievre region. Sens is located in the Yonne region of Burgundy, about 2 hours from there and I haven’t traveled that way. I do know that it’s close to the Sancerre wine region. If you do decide to come to Yonne, let me know. There are a couple of fine restaurants that I think you would like. In any case, let me know how your trip was and enjoy!

I’m having a very small wedding at my house for 20 people mid June and would love any of your good adresses for Trateiur, people to help, flowers… again it is super small and simple but good addresses are always good to have as well as another American in the area :) you can contact me- taraballarotto@gmail.com thank you Tara

  83. Ciao!

I was wondering if you’d be interested in participating in the Writing Process Blog Tour. It’s not obligatory, but it is quite fun, and I’d love to see what your responses are. My posting date will be the 9th of June, and yours will be the 16th of June – but don’t worry, I’m not going to enforce that! If you can’t make it, you can’t make it. And the posting date for the three people you pick in turn will be the 23rd of june, and the people they pick will post on the 30th, etc.

So pretty much all you need to do is:

Step 1: Acknowledge the person and the site that involved you in the blog tour. My blog is http://ineedafeed.wordpress.com
Step 2: Answer the 4 questions below about your writing process.

    1. What are you working on?
    2. How does your work differ from others of its genre?
    3. Why do you write what you do?
    4. How does your writing process work?

Step 3: Say who your three choices of bloggers are, and give a brief bio and link to the website of each of them. Again, their date will be the 23rd of june.

So please let me know whether you’re interested in taking part or not as soon as possible. And have a fantastic day!

    Nell

    Hi Rosemary,
Was wondering why you weren’t posting anymore — I just discovered that I was mysteriously dropped as a “follower.” Anyway, I’m in Frankfurt for work for all of June. If you’re in Germany during that period and would be up for a coffee (or wine) and a chat somewhere in that or the Stuttgart area, let me know. Would be nice!
