We were so lucky to meet Twayab, a perfectionist at his job of house restoration and a superb cook. He and his lovely wife Mina invited us over to sample his native foods from the island of Mauritius.
We began this feast with cocktails and a variety of small bites including some crunchy, savory yellow split pea balls that we dipped into spicy sauces made with deadly peppers from the island. Twayab also made three different mini samosas that were fabulous; mixed vegetable, potato and ground beef. Our family is so tacky; we ate like sugar cane cutters.
A sumptuous rice biriyani.
Spicy sauteed, saffron colored eggs.
A rice bowl with potatoes and tender chunks of beef, accompanied by a garden fresh tomato salad
A marvelous saute of cabbage, carrots and green beans. My favorite!
Dessert was a creative duo of sweet potato cake and vermicelli pudding.
